This summer, Hugh Jackman (The Greatest Showman) is going to take you on a journey, at least that’s what he promises in the trailer for his most recent up-and-coming blockbuster Reminiscence. Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy helms the Nolan-esque film as both writer and director – in her directorial debut – and looks to be bringing a certain brand of science-fiction with her. Jackman stars as Nick Bannister, a man living in a near future (and flooded) Miami who is an expert in helping people relive their memories, all the while on a quest to find the truth behind the mysterious woman (Rebecca Ferguson, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) he’s fallen for. This film sounds like some weird combination of Inception and The Prestige, and we’re here for it (it probably helps that Jonathan Nolan is a producer). The trailer and official synopsis for the film can be seen below:

From writer/director/producer Lisa Joy comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ action thriller “Reminiscence,” starring Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson, and Thandiwe Newton. Nick Bannister (Jackman), a private investigator of the mind, navigates the darkly alluring world of the past by helping his clients access lost memories. Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed when he takes on a new client, Mae (Ferguson). A simple matter of lost and found becomes a dangerous obsession. As Bannister fights to find the truth about Mae’s disappearance, he uncovers a violent conspiracy, and must ultimately answer the question: how far would you go to hold on to the ones you love? Reminiscence looks to be an intense thrill ride with compelling visuals, an exciting original concept, and an emotional center that packs a punch, just about everything we look for in good sci-fi. Hugh Jackman did some incredible work in the last decade as well, between his work in the X-Men films culminating with the critically acclaimed Logan, his original musical The Greatest Showman, and his performance as Jean Valjean in the screen adaptation of the musical epic Les Miserables, Jackman can seemingly do no wrong. Reminiscence is set to be released in cinemas and on HBO Max on August 20th.
