Geralt of Rivia is back bigger and badder than ever in the trailer for the second season of The Witcher. Netflix’s much-hyped series, based on the books of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, returns to the small screen this November. The trailer shows Geralt (Henry Cavill) taking on a bunch of monsters while Jay-Z’s verse to Kanye West’s Monster plays in the background. As well as showcasing Geralt doing what he does best, the trailer also highlights Geralt training Ciri (Freya Allen) back at Kaer Morhen, the whereabouts of Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and the Nilfgaardian Empire leaving a path of destruction in its wake. There’s also a reunion between Geralt and barb Jaskier (Joey Batey), who’ll hopefully provide another gem along the lines of Toss a Coin to Your Witcher.
“At the end of season one, we have what I think is one of the sort of most emotional scenes that we’ve done, which is Geralt and Ciri finding each other after they’ve both been searching all season… And it seems like we’ve got a father figure and daughter figure, and everything’s going to be perfect at that point, except for they’ve never met,” explained showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich in a statement. “And so it was really fun to start season two thinking about, well, they’re not a family yet,” she added. “How do they grow to be one? What do you do if you are a person like Geralt, who has sworn he doesn’t need anyone in the world whatsoever? And then he’s presented with a girl who is now solely in his care.” Hissrich also revealed the season is based on the short story A Grain of Truth and will explore more of Geralt’s backstory.
