Grime MC Skepta continues his affinity with footwear giant Nike with the release of the Air Max Tailwind V. The latest collaboration between the two is the fifth iteration of the Air Max Tailwind and arguably the best yet. Skepta first teased the sneakers on Instagram over the weekend with a video before dropping a few press shots.

The black and blue color scheme is inspired by a butterfly’s wing and is intended to signify the continued change and adaptation we all go through in life. “We are all going through metamorphosis, a new stage of life,” Skepta says. “We chose this butterfly print out of about 50 different options because it had to evoke the correct emotion. There’s also reflective detailing on the tongue and around the ankle, while a number of other additions are a nod to Skepta’s career.
The chrome Nike Swooshes are a reference to Skepta and Nike’s SK Shox TL sneaker and the thermographic heel counter pays homage to the rapper’s Ignorance is Bliss album cover. The kicks, along with a matching Nike tracksuit, are set to drop on April 2. It’s also been rumored an orange colorway is also in the works.
