Love him or hate him, there’s no doubting Michael Bay is a movie-making force. For every Bad Boys or Armageddon, we get a Pearl Harbor or Transformers: Age of Extinction. It’s the circle of life. The director, writer, and producer’s latest effort is an epic heist flick starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman).

As you would expect, this film has everything you want from a Bay movie; explosions, car chases, dodgy dialogue, and over-the-top action. Unfortunately, like many trailers of late, it gives away a fair bit of the movie, but I’m still hyped. A remake of Laurits Munch-Petersen’s 2005 Danish film Ambulancen, Bay’s version stars Abdul-Mateen II as Will Sharp, a war veteran struggling to make ends meet. Needing money for his wife’s surgery, he turns to his adopted brother and career criminal Danny (Gyllenhall). He offers Sharp the opportunity to take part in a $32 million bank heist. With no other options, Sharp accepts the offer. Then it all goes to shit. As is custom with these types of films, the heist goes wrong and the brothers find themselves on the run. Trying to escape, the duo hijacks an ambulance that just happens to be transporting a wounded cop they shot. As EMT Cam Thompson (Eiza González, Hobbs & Shaw) does her best to save the law enforcement officer, Will and Danny must evade the entire LAPD while trying not to kill each other. This film looks mental and is classic Bay and I for one can not wait to see it! Ambulance hits cinemas on February 19, 2022.
