A life-size Toyota GR Supra, in true LEGO style, has been unveiled at LEGOLAND in Japan. Onlookers can check out the car up close and personal as part of the 35th-anniversary of the ever-popular GR Supra (aka Celica Supra). The LEGO car was constructed using 477,303 LEGO blocks. The 1:1 true-to-size model weighs 4,145 pounds. Putting together the Supra took over 2,400 hours. Some fans speculate the car is heavier than the real thing and probably cost more to make. All the parts are there; the tires, steering wheel, and headlights are ready for a drive. Enhancing the look, a car factory logo and seat for the driver bring the ride together as one cohesive unit.

What one will not find if they were to look under the hood is the GR Supra’s hyped-up turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. A car made of LEGO bricks needs something just a little tamer. A small and mighty electrical engine powers the model, allowing drivers to reach speeds of approximately 17 mph. The Toyota Supra (Japanese: トヨタ・スープラ) first came to the market in 1978. Supra is Latin and roughly translates as “to go beyond” or “above.” Toyota’s made plenty of advances with the model over the decades since its release. The LEGO version simply adds to the fun. LEGO LEGO LEGO LEGO LEGO LEGO LEGO LEGO LEGO LEGO Getting to the car will be challenging for some as it is only on display at LEGOLAND Japan until October 11, 2021. For those in the area, though, it will be a major must-see. Plus, there are rumors of an appearance at the upcoming Japanese Super GT racing series. A DIY version of the project is available for those experiencing FOMO thinking about the landmark project. The 299-piece LEGO Speed Champions Toyota GR Supra set makes for a fun activity that doesn’t require a passport.
