A first in an array of limited editions inspired by extreme geographies, the Defy Extreme Desert Chronograph made of semi-precious stones is taking the art and watch worlds by storm. The new 45 mm Limited Edition Chronograph by Zenith is made of some interesting materials. A notable nature photographer has teamed up with Zenith to create the first special edition chronograph. In short, the Defy Extreme Desert is tough and durable. Made of titanium, the watch showcases hints of polished falcon’s eye semi-precious stone in the bezel and pusher surrounds. The watch’s transparent sapphire crystal dial is tinted, bringing light to the glowing indices and hands. The sandy tones look at home with the rubber band. Hand-finished stone elements steal the scene while semi-precious stones make their mark on the dials. There aren’t any other watches with exterior case components made of natural stone that come to mind, so these products are thought to be the first. The watch comes with a titanium bracelet, black fabric velcro strap, and rubber strap, so there are plenty of options when it comes to style. The photographer, Kourosh Keynejad, has constructed a collection of nine images that, with other previously unseen pieces, are said to be inspired by the timepiece. It launched at FIAC in Paris and will later make an appearance in Dubai and Tokyo. Relying on Zenith’s El Primero 21 movement, the 1/100th of a second chronograph marks the debut of a larger collection of Defy Extreme pieces. Each will carry on the motif of extreme natural environments.
