Classic Supercar Named After Pioneer Giorgio Moroder Goes To Auction

“The sound of the future” was his claim to fame Girogio Moroder said on the famous soundtrack by Daft Punk (2013). Now, a car named after the well-known music producer is heading to auction via RM Sotheby’s. The great mind behind tracks like Love to Love You Baby by Donna Summer, Moroder is also commonly associated with acts such as Kenny Logins, Berlin, and Duran Duran. Such work earned the man his title, “Father of Disco.” Outside of the music industry, Moroder has another accomplishment under his belt: the 1988 Cizeta-Moroder V16T. The ride will be available through RM Sotheby’s in early 2022. Reports have it that the 1980s project came to fruition with a series of notable collaborative efforts. Lamborghini’s Claudio Zampolli, an engineer, was inspired to build a supercar after relocating to LA. Moroder got involved by offering financial backing for the project. Moving things along, Marcelo Gandini hopped on for bodywork. Chassis No. 001 was first revealed at a 1988 event hosted by none other than Jay Leno. To debut the vehicle, Moroder composed an original, A Car is Born. The following year, the automobile made impressive appearances at the 1989 Los Angeles and Geneva Motor Shows. As a result, only nine additional cars were made – none of which looked like the Moroder-influenced version, giving this particular vehicle even more star appeal. The original layout of the engine is based on the Lamborghini Miura. The vehicle is powered by a transverse-mounted 6.0-liter V16, giving the five-speed manual enough power for the mean streets of any happening global hotspot. The first chassis differs from the later productions due to its bigger side intakes with additional strakes and a diagonal crease in the lower bodywork that does not appear in the later cars. The turn signals, fog lamps, and side mirrors are also in a category of their own. The car’s finish is attractive in pearly white, and a red leather interior adds a sharp contrast that appeals to the styles of all involved parties. Moroder was the original owner of the ride. Leno advised him to recommission the vehicle in 2018, and now it is being listed for sale. The buyer’s premium is 12% of the hammer price if $250,000 or less; it’s 10% if the vehicle goes for more than $250,000.
