After the success of Blade Runner 2049, the much love science fiction property is being turned into an animated series. Blade Runner: Black Lotus is a 13 episode anime set in the Blade Runner world and centering on a replicant named Ellie. Set in the year 2032, which is between the original Blade Runner’s 2009 timeline and its sequel’s 2049 setting, Ellie, codenamed “Black Lotus,” has escaped her owners and is on the run from authorities. As the series progresses, Ellie tries to discover who she really is and uncovers a conspiracy that could change everything she thought she knew about herself.

A co-production between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, Black Lotus will be available with both Japanese and English voiceovers. The Japanese cast includes the likes of Arisa Shida, Takako Hinda, and Takehito Koyasu, while the American voice actors feature some big names, including Jessica Henwick (as Ellie), Brian Cox, Will Yun Lee, Samira Wiley, and Josh Duhamel. The series will be directed by Shinji Arakmaki and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045 ) and will be produced by Shinichirō Watanabe, Alcon Entertainment, and animation studio Sola Digital Arts. Blade Runner: Black Lotus is set to arrive on Adult Swim in the fall.
