This year Aston Martin celebrates the 100th anniversary of its original sports car the A3. To commemorate the occasion, the British automobile manufacturer is releasing a limited edition A3 Vantage Roadster. The original A3 is the third of five prototype models produced during the company’s infancy in 1921. The vintage car is powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder engine that produces 11 horsepower. Now that might not seem overly impressive, but in the early 1920s that was significant. It smashed numerous speed records and took out first place at the Essex Motor Club Kop Hill Climb in 1922 and even lapped the famous Brooklands circuit at 84.5 mph in 1923. This piece of automotive history was purchased and fully restored by Aston Martin’s Automobile Museum, where it now sits for visitors to see. Mechanically it’s almost exactly the same as the standard Vantage, coming with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Where it differs is aesthetically, with the limited edition featuring a similar black finish to the original prototype with flashes of aluminum. There is a new grill and wing panels crafted by Ecurie Bertelli, a renowned specialist in pre-war Astons, along with Aston Martin heritage badging, bronze-colored brake calipers, and a saddle leather bonnet strap resembling the one found on the original 1921 A3. The 20″ black forged wheels have also been styled to look like the wooden spokes of the A3. The dials on the front console have been coated in copper to create a vintage vibe that adds to the overall feel of the car. Only three limited edition A3 Vantage Roadsters have been built and are available via Aston Martin now.   hwmastonmartin.co.uk
