Why we need another Ghostbusters movie is anybody’s guess, but at least Ghostbusters: Afterlife seems to have captured the feel of the original 80s classic. After the critical and box office failure of the 2016 reboot/sequel, it looked like we would never see the supernatural fighting heroes again. Oh, how wrong were we. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a sequel to Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II set in the country town of Summerville, Oklahoma. The basic premise concerns a group of kids discovering the connection their grandfather had to the original Ghostbusters as they’re forced to confront a growing evil emitting from the town. You can check out the trailer and full synopsis below.

After being evicted from their home, a single mother and her two children are forced to move to a decayed farmhouse in Summerville, Oklahoma, left to them by the children’s late grandfather, where a series of unexplained earthquakes are occurring despite not being situated on any fault and strange things are happening in an old mine once belonged to the alleged occultist Ivo Shandor. The children discover their grandfather’s history with the original Ghostbusters, who have since been largely forgotten by the world beyond their fan base. When supernatural phenomena relating to New York City’s “Manhattan Crossrip of 1984” arises and threatens the town, the kids, along with their family and friends, must use the Ghostbusters’ equipment to save it. The trailer makes this film look like a movie version of Stranger Things, no doubt helped by the fact that Stranger Things cast member Finn Wolfhard is the star. He’s joined by McKenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home), Carrie Coon (Avengers: Infinity War), and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man). The big reveal at the end of the trailer is the voice of Dan Aykroyd reprising his role as original Ghostbuster Ray Stantz. Aykroyd isn’t the only returning actor from the series, with Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts all making a comeback. Despite the film lacking the excitement of the first flick, I’m optimistic this will work due to co-writer and director Jason Reitman, who is the son of Ivan Reitman, the co-writer and director of the first two films. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set to hit cinemas on November 11.
